From June 28, 2025, the new Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG) will come into effect – a decisive step towards a more inclusive society. As the Alliance Association, we not only want to inform you about the upcoming legal changes but also offer concrete solutions to help you design your digital offerings in an accessible manner efficiently and in time.
The BFSG transposes the EU Directive on Accessibility Requirements (European Accessibility Act, EAA) into German law. The aim is to design products and services so that they are accessible to people with disabilities. From mid-2025, certain requirements will be legally mandatory – including for:
• Websites and online shops
• Digital tools such as product configurators
• Smart electrical appliances
• Digital catalogs, price lists, and user manuals
Digital offerings, in particular, must be accessible in the future – a topic that can also affect brick-and-mortar retailers with a web presence. Whether there is actually a legal obligation in individual cases depends on various factors and should be legally reviewed if in doubt.
Millions of people in Germany live with disabilities or age-related limitations. Accessibility means self-determination, participation, and equality for these people. But even apart from the legal obligation, it offers clear advantages: You improve usability for all visitors to your website, open up new target groups, and demonstrate social responsibility. “Accessibility is more than a legal requirement – it’s a sign of modern customer orientation. As an association, we see it as our duty to offer our members practicable solutions with which they can meet this responsibility” says Marc Mispelkamp, Management Marketing and Sales.
We know: Implementing new legal requirements can be challenging. That’s why we offer you concrete, practical support in implementing the BFSG.
With the Eye-Able Assist widget, you can improve the digital accessibility of your website with just a few clicks. Functions such as:
• Adjustment of contrasts and color profiles
• Enlargement of texts
• Keyboard-friendly navigation
help your visitors to better grasp your content – especially for people with visual impairments.
Simply send an email with your website URL to marketing@alliance.de, and we will send you the corresponding code snippet for easy integration.
For a comprehensive analysis of your website, we also offer you the Eye-Able® Audit Report Tool. This checks your website against accessibility criteria and provides you with concrete suggestions for improvement. The offer is complemented by a generator for creating your legally required accessibility statement.
As your association, we see ourselves not only as a representation of interests but also as a partner in practice. We keep our members constantly updated on current legislative changes – and provide solutions at the same time. This is how we accompany you in staying customer-oriented, well-positioned digitally, and as legally secure as possible in the future – however, for individual legal questions, we always recommend seeking legal advice.
